Automakers take up ‘BS-VI by 2020′ challenge

NEW DELHI: Major automobile manufacturers on Thursday assured the government that they will produce BS-VI fuel compliant vehicles of new models from April 2020, but demanded that the government unveil a scrapping policy to phase out old vehicles and ensure that there are no policy flip-flops in shifting the clean fuel timeline due to pressure from any quarter. Toyota’s new R&D company hires technical team

Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corp's research and development company, Toyota Research Institute (TRI), said it hired a team of scientists and engineers to help drive research into artificial intelligence and robots. The world's top-selling automaker announced plans in November to set up TRI with a focus on developing artificial intelligence technologies such as self-driving cars. US auto sales on pace for record year in 2015 after strong December

DETROIT: Automakers on Tuesday reported strong US sales in December, indicating that 2015 would smash records, and most forecasters said the new year will be even better. General Motors Co said sales will end at 17.8 million vehicles on a seasonally adjusted annualized basis for the year, topping the previous record of 17.35 million vehicles in 2000 as low gasoline prices, easy credit and moderate economic growth boosted the industry. Bajaj Auto sales marginally down in December

NEW DELHI: Bajaj AutoBSE 0.32 % today reported a marginal decline in total sales in December at 2,89,003 units as against 2,89,244 units during the same month last year. However, motorcycle sales during the month increased by 1 per cent to 2,47,782 units as against 2,46,233 units in the same month in 2014, the company said in a regulatory filing. Hero Cycles sells record 6 lakh units in December

NEW DELHI: Bicycle manufacturer Hero Cycles sold over six lakh units last month, an increase of 20 per cent as compared to December 2014. Renault domestic sales zoom over two-fold in December

NEW DELHI: Carmaker Renault India today said its domestic sales surged over two-fold last month to 10,292 units compared with 3,956 units sold in December last year. During the calender year, Renault India sold 53,847 units as against 44,849 units in the preceding year, registering a cumulative growth of 20.1 per cent.
